Adrian Hailwood presented his Autumn Winter 2016 womenswear collection, ‘Lionheart’, at New Zealand Fashion Week with a range of daywear through to eveningwear looks.
As always his glamorous full-length gowns were an audience delight with claps and ooohs in appreciation when the sequin-encrusted figure-hugging dress and sequinned cape walked the runway. Hailwood says his showstopping gowns were inspired by Hong Kong, where his sources the luxurious fabrics used.
Hailwood also does daywear, with printed sweatshirts, a denim line of jeans, and a signature print each season (I love the horse head tee I got of his a few seasons back.) The ‘Lionheart’ AW16 collection features a dragon motif and the Chinese national flower, the chrysanthemum. The blue chrysanthemum print (second photo below) also appeared on amazing high heels in a patterned panel up the front of the foot and I saw people on Instagram wondering if they were just for the show or going to be sold to the public. other models wore Hailwood sneakers and sequin dresses were styled with these sneakers and parkas, combining day and evening wear together in a cool justaposition.
His show sponsor Citroen showed a DS Automobiles video at the start and we got a cute little toy Citroen car in the goodybag which my son will love! There was also a mini Blue Duck Rare vodka as Hailwood has a new collaboration with Simply Pure Rarified Spirits brand, and their spirits Blue Duck Rare Vodka and Black Robin Rare Gin are hitting Hong Kong next, aptly for this show inspired by that land.
