To the accompaniment of a stunning light and sound show, New Zealand fashion label Paris Georgia last night closed out the first day of New Zealand Fashion Week, in the coveted role as 2019’s ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ designer.

It was the first local runway show for label co-founders Paris Mitchell Temple and Georgia Cherrie, who created the highlight of the first full day of New Zealand Fashion Week, as they unveiled their Fall-Winter 2020 Collection. Their collection also included two bespoke outfits inspired by classic Mercedes-Benz designs.

From the moment guests entered, music by LA based composer Graz set the tone, with an incredible composition by Philip Glass featuring Blondie’s ‘Heart of Glass’ providing backing for the show. A brass sculpture by Dane Mitchell, ‘Tuning’, formed the focal point of the show, also acting as a functional antenna and FM radio station. A curated lighting concept by Angus Muir, entitled ‘Dusk till Dawn’, complemented the display. The lighting, music and art combined to create emotional involvement and draw attention to the shapes and fabrics of the stunning Paris Georgia outfits.

“Lighting and sound were a huge focus for us in curating our first runway show,” explained Georgia Cherrie. “We wanted to create an experience from the moment people entered the venue. Working with incredible artists such as Angus Muir, and using Dane Mitchell’s artwork, has been an experience to remember.”

Paris Georgia’s Fall Winter 2020 collection contrasted high-fashion show pieces with wear-now winter style. “As this is our first runway show, we created the collection with a focus on show pieces,” said Paris Mitchell Temple.

“A selection of voluminous shapes and luxurious fabrics make up design-led show pieces, alongside the Fall Winter 2020 collection including very wearable winter pieces. A range of handcrafted fabrics have been used, with cashmere knits and tailored jackets made of Japanese bonded mac alongside denim and shirting.”

The show also featured some of Paris Georgia’s local muses alongside runway models. “We were honoured to have the women that inspire us walking the runway,” Georgia said. “Rosie Herdmen, Veronica Crockford-Pound, Manahou Mackay, Ngahuia Williams and Soraya La Pread all walked in our garments, and it was a privilege to include them in our first show.”
