In this latest ON MY DESK: HAIR column, we take a look at the latest hair products and hair care to cross my desk in May 2014.
New from FUDGE is the FUDGE Big Hair range that does what it says on the tin: delivers amplified looks for voluminous locks. With what they call the OOMF Voluminising Complex (I love the oomf name) the range takes a new approach to adding volume while avoiding the problems associated with other brands’ volume products. Other products using simple bonding methods can damage hair cuticle and get a frizzy, matte result with their volume. FUDGE Big Hair however takes the scientific high road, lending hair negatively charged and moving apart from each other to create more volume. You can get more oomf fom Fudge stockists nationwide at $25.50 from the Fudge Big Hair range of Mega Hair Milk, Push-It-Up Blow Dry Spray, Elevate Styling Powder, and Think Big Texture Spray. For stockists phone 0800 604 604.
Label.m Powder Pink Spray is the easiest-to-use pastel hair product I’ve tried myself. As it’s a spray, it evenly coats your hair and is fast and very convenient as you don’t have to rub it onto each piece of hair as with hair crayons and chalks. It goes on really intense and strong and if you brush your hair, it softens it up a lot. It is slightly pricier than hair chalks, at $44.50, but you do get what you pay for. It also washed straight out with no residue which is good news for workers who don’t want pink hair at the office on Monday morning. Label.m is available at TONI&GUY salons.
We often concentrate on how our ends are, but to get to the root of healthy hair that’s exactly where we need to look: the roots. Schwarzkopf Professional BC Scalp Therapy range ($34.90 each) use an advanced nutritive-balance complex which is silicone-free and anti-bacterial to gently yet effectively treat the scalp. The BC Scalp Therapy range includes Dandruff Control Shampoo, Dandruff Control Fluid, Sensitive Soothe Shampoo, Deep Cleansing Shampoo for excessively oily hair, and Scalp Therapy Serum for redness and skin irritations. Available at Schwarzkopf Professional salons 0800 930 930.
Even if you didn’t know Kevin.Murphy was so great, and cruelty-free, and the perfect marriage of science and nature, you would pick this range up purely for its divine pink bottles with the signature k impressed on the side. And impressed you will be, too, with the new Kevin Murphy Plumping Line, designed to thicken up those with thinning, limp hair. They are formulated to lengthen the growing phase (anagen) of hair to thus put off the falling stage, so like Rapunzel’s Prince, you hang on to your locks for longer. The shampoo, Plumping.Wash, and the conditioner, Plumping.Rinse, are $48 each and the leave-in spray Plumping.Mass is $70. It takes about two weeks for the anagen phase to lengthen so you’ll see results in 14-30 days. Available wherever Kevin Murphy is sold, and for stockists call 0800 CREW 66.
Two beautiful German brands have united. One of the most iconic German supers of all time, Claudia Schiffer, has created her own line of hair products as an affordable price, bearing her face. The new Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME range created with Claudia Schiffer includes everything you need for strong – and shiny – hair, with shampoos, conditioners, and haircare products across four solutions: repair, coloured hair, shine, and volume. These include BB Beauty Balms, intensive masks, shine boost spray, heat protect, and a volume root lift. Each formula contains ULTIME-4 Complex – a combination of hair proteins and keratin with essence of pearl and panthenol to nourish hair strands and add shine. They are $14.99 each in supermarkets and pharmacies now.
If you prefer the balliage dip-dyed look to a global haircolour but want to avoid high salon prices and also like the convenience of doing it at home, you should check out the new L’Oreal Paris Wild Ombres Preference home hair colours. They have a brush-on contrasting (lighter) colour to your own haircolour and you brush it on from the tips upwards, ending somewhere between your ear and your chin. Available at pharmacies and supermarkets.
L’Oreal Paris ELVIVE Fibralogy Thickening Shampoo, Conditioner, and Treatment is L’Oreal’s first thickening range to build hair strands from within to create a voluminous look. Each time you wash, the Filloxane penetrates the fibre to increase its diameter. Shampoo and conditioner $6.59 and Double Serum $11.19, from pharmacies and supermarkets now.
Schwarzkopf Nectra Colour is a brand new , ammonia-free, home hair colour. It’s point of difference is its nurturing qualities; instead of haircolour that damages hair, it contains an intensive conditioner. And it doesn’t smell bad! It contains flower nectar, hence the name Nectra, and botanical oils. Incidentally, this box pictured below is their first use of an Asian model. It is available in 12 shades, for $14.99 each, at supermarkets, The Warehouse, pharmacies and department stores.
