The highlight of the week had to be being invited to stay at Auckland’s hottest new hotel – Naumi Auckland, a five-star boutique hotel with creativity, wit, luxury and location, convenient to Auckland Airport.
The stunning refit opening recently as an incredible project by the talented Auckland interior design duo of Toni Brandso and Liv Patience of Material Creative.
From the moment you step in and see the floor to ceiling gold leaf artwork behind the reception desk like feathers you are aware of its phoenix-like transformation. The bird theme continues with live birds in a giant birdcage in the foyer and model tui birds on each room door. Beautiful light fixtures hang from the dining area and the use of sheepskin furs and strong colour brings decadence to the restaurants.
But perhaps the most striking difference to generic hotels is the use of saucy wit in the handwritten style slogans around the hotel. The toilet is under the sign ‘shits and giggles’ and has mirrors with etchings you can take selfies on as an angel or a princess or in a jail line-up. Hairdryers have ‘blow me’, lights have ‘turn me on’, and the gym says ‘wipe me down’. It’s a naughty fun contrast to the sterile humourless environment of most hotels.
Welcome to my beautiful Dotty Suite at Naumi Auckland Airport; a homage to Yayoi Kusama, the Japanese queen of the polkadot. It’s completely incredible and the attention to detail is AMAZING.
There’s even a bar in the lounge and they’ve given us a welcome wine and cheese platter, and the bedroom has a neon sign and the bathroom is NEXT LEVEL.
Pre-dinner drinks in the hotel dining lounge.
Wearing Stella McCartney Adidas and shoes by Allbirds at their gym.
Cool street art on the roller doors cleverly incorporates more art to transform storage spaces en route to the gym.
Just a minute I’m on the foam. A relaxing bath in the dotty bathroom with their SOAK bathroom toiletries before breakfast.
The donut wall at the breakfast buffet. All in all it was a delightful experience for all the senses. You have got to stay here soon.

I was a guest of the hotel, this was unpaid, and all photos and opinions are my own.
