ON MY DESK: What’s new for March 2023

What a month! I know they they call it ‘March Madness’ – the back to school and Uni traffic has been unbelievable and it’s been full-on starting new schools and getting settled – only to be followed by completely devastating-for-many weather storms and everything being disrupted such as camps being postponed. Now that the horrid weather has passed and things are somewhat settling down again, I have sat at my desk to bring to you a round-up of all that new and come across my path this past month, in ON MY DESK: What’s new for March 2023. At least in the world of beauty everything is looking absolutely divine, and there are some fabulous innovations in skincare and new product launches in the local beauty industry occurring now.

ESSANO HAPPY SKIN

Essano HAPPY SKIN skincare range

You will already know the much-loved Auckland-based brand Essano for their rosehip skincare that’s available widely in supermarkets at a great price point.

Now, Essano has just launched a colourful, youthful line called HAPPY SKIN that makes me feel happier just looking at it. The contemporary and chic skincare range already stolen by my tweenage daughter looks at balancing the skin’s microbiome to make skin happy and healthy. The 4 step routine pictured above, is Step 1: Clean Canvas Jelly Cleanser with tropical fruit enzymes and a multi-amino acid complex; Step 2: Prep & Balance Nutrient Toner Mist to quench your skin with hydration and balance and feed your microbiome with nutrients; Step 3: Supercharge Glow Serum with Vitamin C and fermented probiotics; and Step 4: Bounce Water Cream with probiotics, hyaluronic acid, squalane, and ceramide complex.

Where to buy: Available from Chemist Warehouse, and from Countdown supermarkets from April 2023, affordably priced around $23-$33 each.

Dermalogica Phyto Nature Oxygen Cream

Dermalogica Phyto Nature Oxygen Cream

Take us back to 2019 please! Imagine how nice that would be. Well, Dermalogica Phyto Nature Oxygen Cream has been clinically-proven to give your skin four years back, and breathe new life into skin. Yes, please. Can you do my whole body now?

Clinically-proven to give your skin four years back

This luxurious liquid moisturiser in a beautiful, ombre purple glass bottle, brings together potent ingredients such as oxygen-optimising botanicals -including one derived from a plant in a low-oxygen environment which helps skin to better absorb oxygen. How genius is that?! What I love about Dermalogica as a brand, is how they combine the best of the worlds of science and of nature to their best effect. Active botanical ingredients include high-altitude botanical extract from Ligustrum Lucidum Seed together with Glycogen and Nasturtium Flower to help oxygenate skin’s surface by hydrating its upper layers for a smooth, energised appearance; adaptogenic Astragalus to smooth and tighten for a lifted look; Squalane and Luffa Root to visibly firm, minimising the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; and antioxidant-rich Rose of Winter to soothe and boosts skin’s resilience. The result? Firmer, revitalised, plumper skin.
Where to buy: Available now for $200 from Dermalogica counters and online at www.dermalogica.co.nz

Trinny London BFF

I already feel like Trinny is my BFF without having even met as she’s given the world this gorgeous creamy youth in a tube. Two of my favourite Trinny London products that I am using currently are BFF Rebalance Tinted Serum, and BFF SERUM De-Stress tinted serum.

Both classed as ‘makeup – skincare hybrids’, the BFF Rebalance Tinted Serum is formulated with niacinamide and noni bioactives to give a medium buildable coverage, balance any face shininess, and control blemishes. The finish is a soft-focus, matte finish – not too shiny like a disco ball and not too dry and dull that it shows all your wrinkles and ages you. I like the moist effect and the hydrating, non-drying feel. It has a light wash of tinted colour to make you look slightly alive and alert but not too ‘made up’.
Where to buy: Trinny London is now available to purchase in New Zealand dollars at trinnylondon.com/nz/

HOLSKI Collagen Beauty Builder

50+ age group collagen Starter Kit by HOLSKI

I’ve been using the 50+ age group collagen Starter Kit by HOLSKI which involves taking collagen as both a drink powder and as a face lotion at night. HOLSKI has been started by two New Zealand women and mums who developed this with a scientist and have a variety of different age specific products on offer. The collagen supplements are aimed at improving your skin’s collagen both internally and externally, with a delicious vanilla tasting powder you add to a glass of water, and a topical face cream. I am actually super happy not to be taking more capsules, so this is great.

HOLSKI Collagen
Collagen Activation Hydrator and the Collagen Beauty Builder

I tried the Starter Kit of two 50+ Collagen products: the skincare pump bottle of Collagen Activation Hydrator and the Collagen Beauty Builder drink powder. They report that this powerful combo of collagen and other super active ingredients works from the inside and the outside to give 27% better results than either would alone.
Where to buy: You can buy HOLSKI online at Holski.com
