ON MY DESK: What’s new in beauty February 2016

In this latest ON MY DESK column, we take a look at what’s new in beauty across my path in the month of February 2016…

Well hello, late evening courier delivery, of Kendall Jenner facing Estee Lauder’s beautiful new ‘Sumptuous Knockout Eye Collection’ which does exactly what it says on the tin. A sexy black mascara, a smouldering automatic eyeliner, and warm tone eyeshadows.

Point of difference:
Thread’s Pick: my personal pick is the Sumptuous Knockout mascara for its lifting and separating and extreme lengthening properties.
Price: $57
Where to buy: at Estee Lauder counters www.esteelauder.co.nz and Smith & Caughey online www.smithandcaugheys.co.nz

Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50

In this hot weather, I really insist that it’s vital to wear a moisturiser with sunscreen as well as a chic hat and sunglasses. Thus, perfect for summer, is Dermalogica’s Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50. This legendary moisturiser is a sunscreen with SPF50, and an anti-ageing day cream in one.
Point of difference: it’s a medium-weight moisturiser with increased sun protection through Dermalogica’s patented Oleosome technology.
Price: $122
Where to buy: at Dermalogica counters and online at www.dermalogica.co.nz

Luk Beautifood

I am a sucker for creative and gorgeous packaging and so I was very excited to see Luk Beautifood; 100% natural, toxin-free Lip Nourish lip balms that come beautifully wrapped in fabric.
Point of difference: Each lipstick comes wrapped in botanical print fabric. A cross between a lipbalm and a lipstick with a pretty, sheer wash of natural colour and hydration from avocado oil and cocoa butter, with no synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrance or chemical preservatives.
Thread’s Pick: Mandarin Spice.
Price: $25.50
Where to buy: Available in New Zealand at www.ohnatural.co.nz

Living Proof

It’s now mummy relaxing bath time o’clock, with some me-time with a cold beverage, and this gorgeous Living Proof shampoo and conditioner.  I’ve been using Living Proof – owned by Jennifer Aniston – for a couple of weeks now and this fabulous USA brand is now available in New Zealand from @sablefinehair Wellington.

Point of difference: Designed to improve your hair so much that you wash your hair less often, using their patented Healthy Hair Molecule (OFPMA) to deliver the five benefits for a perfect hair day—smoothness, volume, conditioning, strength and polish.
Price: The shampoo and conditioner retail for $40 each.
Where to buy: online at www.sable.co.nz.

Clinique-All-About-Oils

Clinique’s brand new All About Oils collection debunks oil myths about being heavy or greasy. Instead, oils absorb faster than moisturisers and lotions do, to nourish skin. They also penetrate sin faster than moisturisers do and can even be used by people with oily skin.

Point of difference: I used the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil on a cotton pad and found it to be a light oil that removed makeup well. The bottle said rinse off but being an oil I don’t think it all rinsed off, and I think I preferred a cotton pad to remove makeup with it.
Thread’s Pick: I really liked the Clinique Smart Treatment oil as I have long been a fan of all facial oils and this one is particularly light yet luxurious and it’s clear so it isn’t in danger of staining anything yellow. I really liked the eyedropper packaging too.
Price: New Deep Comfort Body Oil 125ml $70, New Moisture Surge Melting Mask Balm 15ml $89, Clinique Smart Treatment Oil 30ml $69, Turnaround Revitalizing Treatment Oil $59, and Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil 200ml $54.
Where to buy: at Clinique counters from March 14th 2016 and online at www.smithandcaugheys.co.nz
