As the weather is finally turning into what seriously looks like it is at least thinking about winter, if not actual winter, I turn my head to skincare products for the colder months. One I always love using is balms on the body, and oils for my face. These rich, nutrient-dense products never fail to pack a punch when I need it when my skin feels raw and in need of a good ‘drink’. There are balms, moisturisers, and a couple of feel-good products here (organic chocolate anyone?) in my the latest ON MY DESK column showcasing what’s new in beauty for May 2015.
TRUE wonder balm is a fabulous multi-tasker that is a three in one cleaner + moisturiser + treatment that’s certified organic by BIOGRO and contains powerful botanical including calendula, olive, and chamomile to hydrate and soother skin. It’s not the cheapest balm, because it doesn’t have cheap fillers, just certified organic and effective skincare ingredients. It retails for $42.590 from trueholisticbeauty.com
DKNY Delicious Delights is a limited edition collection of fragrances inspired by sweet sorbets in pastel hues. I’m wearing Cool Swirl now and I love it! So fresh and clean smelling. DKNY Delicious Delights Cool Swirl is a tropical blend with magnolia and jasmine; Dreamsicle is a feminine scent with apple and fresh apple; and Tutti Fruity is creamy and decadent with fruity blackberry, mandarin and rose. The three fragrances are packaged in frosted glass bottles in green, orange and purple juices and open with a twist of the wrist, with a spray located inside the half-circle lid. They retail for $69 each at department stores and selected Life Pharmacies from May 2015.
With the change in seasons, plus of course regular busy-mummy-slash-woman life, good sleep can go out the window. These supplements are a good healthy way to avoid sleeping pills and rebalance your body minerals and vitamins for a healthy night’s sleep. GO Healthy GO Magnesium Sleep’s active ingredient is natural marine magnesium which contains no magnesium oxide so it is absorbed more easily and also is more gentle on your digestive tract. Capsules retail for $32.90 for 60 caps from major pharmacies and health stores and online at www.gohealthy.co.nz or phone 0508 466 9327.
Natural Things NZ is a fantastic website selling all-things-good-and-natural including their famous ECO TAN natural self-tanning lotion developed by Sonya Drivers. What you may not know is they have a wider variety of products, such as this coconut deodorant by ECO SONYA, HURRAW! lip treatment balm, and PANA raw organic chocolate in goji and coconut, as well as Cosima, Metta Skincare, Muma Health, and many more. You can order off their website at www.naturalthings.co.nz
Olive pomegranate hand & nail cream is a firm favourite and I had the pleasure of visiting Simunovich Olive Estate a while back to pick olives and view the actual factory onsite – which was fascinating and very eco-sustainable, too. Now they ahve launched a brand new Olive pomegranate body wash with their own extra virgin olive oil and their spring water. It retails for $17.95 from www.simuolive.co.nz and pharmacies and Farmers stores nationwide.
Dermalogica Climate Control Lip Treatment ($16) is a barrier protection for dry, damaged lips, especially great against winter wind and ice. You can use it under your SPF moisturiser on cheeks, nose and lips when exercising outside or snowboarding and skiing, too.
Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm is an eye cream with a difference. This little beauty is actually waterless, as it is silicone-based, and creates a protective barrier when applied to keep moisture in and dryness out. It retails for $94 from www.dermalogica.co.nz and Dermalogica stockists nationwide.
Local brands we love: Karen Murrell lipstick in Pink Starlet is her biggest selling shade in NZ. Rose candle by The Aromatherapy Company.
Sally Hansen has released a 18K Gold nail hardener to strengthen weak nails – and gives them a golden sparkle.
And finally for baby, New Zealand businesswoman Sigrid McLisky has launched her two latest natural bodycare products: Sigrid’s Baby Bottom Cream ($7.99) and Baby Bodywash ($8.99). I have been using the bodywash already on my two children at bathtime and it’s a 2-in-1 for both body and hair so you don’t need to buy a separate shampoo. Baby bottom creams are great for newborns and this contains sweet almond oil, beeswax and zinc oxide for minor rashes, burns, itchy bites and more. They are all available from selected New World and Pak ‘n’Save supermarkets and online at www.sigrids.co.nz
