How to Wear: Sheer Clothes

In this latest How to Wear column I take a look at how to wear the sheer trend.

What To Wear Underneath Sheer Clothes

See-through fabrics can be intimidating as you can wonder how to style them and what to wear underneath. I think the sheerness adds a lovely dimension of lightness and also gives you more possibilities as what you wear under them can change the colour and add depth. For instance, wearing a flesh-toned slip gives a completely different look and feel to wearing a black slip underneath. With pale pieces I tend to wear a light top underneath and with grey and black I wear a darker one, but, having said that, for evening there’s nothing sexier than a flesh-toned cami under black lace or sheer clothes.

Here are some pieces I have styled for daywear, that I think could easily be switched up for evening wear with a strappy or perspex heel and swapping out the skirt for fitted black pants.

Outfit 1: Snake print cropped blouse

I love this white snake print puff sleeve corset top with a front zipper, lined bodice, and puffed sleeves with cuffs and got lots of comments on it when I wore it to Charlie’s Angels. A corset top is so versatile as you can wear it by itself, or over a camisole or singlet tank top to layer it up as I have done here over a black tank top. I matched a snake skirt I already had to create more of a coordinated outfit look and wore grey ankle boots.

Outfit 2: Nude Metallic Mesh Frill Longsleeve Top

Featuring a metallic pattern with frill detailing in an on trend mesh material, we’re all about this frill mesh top.
I was sent this hydrangea in a tiny pot ages ago, and it’s completely blossomed out of control. Plants make the BEST gifts!
I bought these peonies and roses today and they make me feel spring is finally here.

Flourish where you’re planted. This top by Femme Luxe has a beautiful sheer shine to it. A nude top is lovely for day with a long pink skirt for a lunch or wedding, or dressed down with jeans for a casual look; or with a long black skirt or fitted pants and a heel for evening.

Outfit 3: Black Polkadot Tulle Mesh Crop Top

Nobody else can do you like you can. I no longer try to be like anybody else. Not competing is so freeing! I’m wearing fresh hair by my stylist Ann at Blaze salon Newmarket, secondhand trousers, and this cute mesh frill top by Femme Luxe. This Black Polka Dot Tulle Mesh Crop Top lets you make a mesh of it and be a total polka hottie. With a tulle ruffle mesh overlay in a polka dot pattern, this gorgeous top is amazing teamed with denim jeans and a cute bag.

Outfit 4: White Polkadot Tulle Mesh Crop Top

I went for a vintage-inspired peasant boho look, in this White Polkadot Tulle Mesh Crop Top. A pretty white top is a great way to wear sheer, as it looks so light and feminine and especially fresh in summer weather.

So, I hope this has been helpful in how to wear your sheer clothing items, whether for day or night, dark or light! Have fun – after all – wearing them is a SHEER delight! Sorry I couldn’t resist the pun.
