Thread’s pick for Next Big Thing: Southland NZ label UNDONE, started just last year in 2011 by two friends, Elise Barnes and Rachel Webb.
Thread’s favourite is their knitted leather pieces, and they also do interesting things reworking vintage biker jackets.
But it’s not all rough girls and biker babes. In addition to their bespoke hand-worked range, they do feminine fabrics and a more commercial line.
Barnes and Webb are Otago Polytechnic graduates from the School of Fashion and whilst studying, worked together on many projects including knitwear design, from design to sampling in a factory. They both were invited to show their graduate collections at the iD Dunedin Fashion Week.
The pair are still based in Dunedin, working out of a small studio in one of Dunedin’s historic buildings. Undone is designed and made in New Zealand. Staying onshore and maintaining a high quality garment is of very high importance to the label.
The debut collection “A Dream Within a Dream” is to be launched on the 23rd September in Dunedin with over 200 guests attending, and will be available in stores Winter 2012. The Bespoke range is available now directly through UNDONE.
