Thread has been a fan of HUFFER for a quarter century now. We were there at their 2006 fashion week show ‘Zig Zag’ walking down the cutting tables in their workroom with The Electric Confectionaires playing above the photographers pit; their Super Symmetry show in 2007 in a mechanic bay under Giltrap Prestige; their 2008 Free The Fish show dockside at the Hilton with Ali Williams as a fisherman and a suspended Porsche hanging from a crane overhead, their Fly colab with Miss Crabb in 2009 at Continental Car Services Audi showroom, and 2010’s mega show at Auckland Uni. And who can forget Aja Rock coming out of a cake in a star spangled bikini in 2011? All amazing shows and spectacle, and punching above the weight of the streetwear clothes themselves, in drama. The Huffer boys and girls love a circus and are one of NZ fashion’s greatest Ringmasters.
Huffer is 25 and here are my highlights in photos through the years. Happy birthday HUFFER and here’s to your next 25.

I also remember their 2014 launch party in that very same basement for a rather grown-up sister to Huffer. By contrast, it was more refined; an art gallery opening rather a rock ‘n’ roll party with an installation of a print campaign with a live performance by Chelsea of Watercolours. Now, the brand has turned 25.

To celebrate the opening of Huffer Britomart, the iconic NZ streetwear brand gave a shout out to all the people they’ve met along the way, with the launch of its L O C A L campaign, revealed tonight at Britomart’s Atrium space. The show saw Huffer L O C A L S join models on the catwalk inside the Atrium.
