Let’s be honest. The Kardashians are unlikely to be let into your prom. And before you cite their ages and the fact they don’t even attend your school, we’ll just tell you the main reason why Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie (but probably not Caitlyn) would be left out in the cold: dress codes.
There’s little that strikes as much fear in a teenage girl than those two dastardly words. Dress codes, you declare, repress your creativity and don’t allow you to shine.
Cute Within The Code
Luckily for you and your prom-attending peers, there are still a bevy of super cute alternatives from the many super tight, cut-out, deep-V, décolletage displaying formal dresses paraded around on reality TV. It’s a good time to look for where you can buy cute prom dresses. Two or three months is not too early, when considering all the elements that need to come together for you to get your entire ensemble in play. The Prom Dress Shop, which says what it means, and means what it says, focuses exclusively on your school’s most formal evening, and offers enough choices for your entire school (or county, even!) to attend – in different dresses.
Wear White
Since you’ll have (hopefully) many (or at least a few) years before you don a pristine white bridal gown, there’s no reason why you can’t consider wearing white to prom. And, even if you were a debutante and wore (or are going to wear) a form white gown, you should look into finding a white prom dress. White is a color flattering to almost any skin tone and you can add your own flair and pop of color through your accessories. You can check out a collection of beautiful white prom dresses at prom dress stores online or in your local area.
Cracking the Code
It’s not going to go away. It just doesn’t make sense (and isn’t very smart) to just ignore the dress code, and choose a dress you love. Don’t cross your fingers that it will meet the requirements and parameters of what you consider a too-strict dress code. That dress isn’t going to miraculously sew itself up appropriately when you get it home.
Become familiar with the school dress code before you even begin to look at dresses, either in a shop or online. Once you know what you’re forbidden to wear, you’ll much more easily be able to move on from a gown. It will be much more difficult to choose one you really, really want and then just pray it will work. You’re spending way too much on prom to be turned away at the door.
Vanguard High School in Florida’s Marion County has a dress code expressed with such fervency by administration, it’s the first “hit” when you’re searching the Internet. Bold colored fonts decree in capital letters:
- FRONT SLITS ON DRESSES SHOULD NOT BE SHORTER THAN 2 INCHES ABOVE THE KNEE
- SIDE CUTOUTS ARE NOT ALLOWED
- BARE MIDRIFFS OR DRESES WITH SEE-THROUGH MATERIAL ARE NOT ALLOWED; STRAPLESS DRESSES HAVE TO BE FIT SECURELY; THE BACK OF THE DRESS MUST BE MID-RANGE AND SHOULD NOT BE LOW CUT; THE DRESS SHOULD NOT SHOW EXCESSIVE CLEAVAGE
- NO SHEAT BOTTOM, BI-LEVEL SHORT DRESSES MUST HIT THE KNEE
- LENGTH OF BALLERINA DRESSES SHOULD NOT BE ABOVE THE KNEE
By bi-level, they of course refer to “high-low” dresses, which are longer in back, shorter in front.
Visit the recommended websites (click on the links in the discussion above) which feature such a huge inventory and wide-range of choice, you’ll surely find an extremely cute dress within your school’s requirements.
