Shopping the sales: I do some family shopping online
What I would buy online – and would not – buy online
As a busy Mum, the internet is obviously life-changing. As well as being my daily work as a fashion blogger, it’s also changed the way parents shop for their families. To be fair, things that I find hard to buy online would include women’s swimwear and jeans. I really like trying those on in person. I know many women are totally fine buying togs and denim online though so that’s just me. However, things that I would buy online are varied and many, and at the top of my list are children’s clothes, homewares, and toys.

I also needed some new sheets as my in-laws are headed over to Auckland to stay shortly and I literally got rid of my spare bed set and gave it to the local Hospice charity store. So I was rapt to see a sale of 1000 thread count sheets online, and quickly clicked add to cart. I got the Queen set in colour in offwhite, and I also spent aaaages browsing the children’s toys section and the children’s wear. I wouldn’t hesitate to get kids clothes online as it’s so convenient and you are pretty confident they’re going to fit – and you can always use the sizing charts to measure up against if in doubt.
Here are my top picks of the sales
The quintessional British Home Stores label has all the department store basics such as uniforms, as well as fancy dress, and really cute girls’ party dresses.
This is an Australian children’s fashion label, made in Melbourne. It’s really different and original we think. They do gorgeous trackies and denim bottoms with kimono fabric style inserts and patches. Unbelievably cute!
3. Kathy Ireland educational books and toys
The Kathy Ireland children’s toys and books have beautifully-designed educational toys, puzzles and games such as this Memory Match for ages 3 and up to train memory, and Lacing Cards, that train dexterity and coordination ($17 each).
The homewares brand French Bazaar brings a well-edited selection of the latest children’s bedroom trends, cushions, luggage and accessories to Australia and New Zealand. We love this bird and floral cushion ($37)
French Bazaar bunny comforter ($17) and Bunny Angels ($30)
It’s wayyyy better to encourage creative play than put on the tele. These pirate blocks ($17) are a classic childhood favourite and why not role play dressing up in pirate costumes with your kids, and making a treasure map? It’s one of my children’s fave activities.
This feature was brought to you in collaboration with NZSALE where I found all of the above items. The website has actually been going since 2007, which I find personally very reassuring, as they are not a fly-by-night company that will close with your money – they are very reputable and extremely popular, they have 13 million members. To join it’s free, you simply register and this took me about 2 minutes. I enjoyed the experience of buying my family items there – it was easy and fast to register, and the whole process was actually a breeze – and recommend you check it out for your family sometime soon too. I can’t wait for my Schleich animals, not to mention my new sheets, to arrive soon!
