For the first time, Icebreaker – perceived as a winter label – held a Spring/Summer collection showing, to publicise the fact that merino not only keeps you warm in winter but it keeps you cool in summer, as well.
Normally, the New Zealand-based, internationally-sold outdoor clothing label just shows its winter ranges, as it’s more of a wintery thing; all this wool. Au contraire. Merino draws sweat away from the body, so it can be worn even during vigorous physical exercise in the heat of summer, not just hitting the slopes or pounding the pavements in winter time.
The Spring Summer 2010/11 collection ‘Ring of Fire’ is inspired by the volcanic colours of New Zealand’s landscape; thermal water blues and lava reds as well as the more tonal neutrals of nature.
In menswear, three prints are new for the Ring of Fire range; a 3D Southern Alps graphic, a NZ abstract cubist style map, and the jagged lines of a seismograph, all on the volcanic theme.
The GT Run and GT Bike (not the initials for anything, and it doesn’t stand for gran turismo, or gin and tonic) lines are new this summer.
There are two slogans for these; Run with Nature for running, and Ride with Nature for cycling, with both street racing gear in sleeker styles and relaxed fits for mountain biking. Fabrics are 97% merino with 3% Lycra for stretch. Some keen Icebreaker employees put the cycling gear to the test undertaking a 5,000km ride!
Don’t run or ride? Here’s proof you don’t have to be doing anything too strenuous to look great in Icebreaker.
