Style Update: Balloon Sleeves

Statement sleeves with volume added have been a key trend for a few seasons now and don’t look to be going away anytime soon.

Types of Statement Sleeve

There are various types of volume statement sleeves, which create drama to an outfit and take the focus wider, away from the central focus of the neckline. They work well with a high round neck rather than a deep v neck so there isn’t too much going on at once.

Leg of Mutton sleeves have extra fabric at the shoulder seam tapering to a slim cuff.

Bell sleeves have a regular top, with volume at the wrist and usually an elasticated cuff.

Bishop sleeves are like a bell sleeve, but with a button up cuff at the bottom.

Flounce sleeves have a separate circle of fabric attached at the cuff creating the flounce, much like a little poncho on your lower arm.

Ruffle sleeves up the ante from the flounce sleeve with two or more rows of circular fabric creating ruffles down the arm.

Balloon Sleeves, or puff sleeves, are cut extra wide from the shoulder down, and are elasticated at the cuff. They may be full length or a shorter length balloon puff.

Whichever sleeve you choose, add drama to your dresses and tops by adding some volume.
