The Week on Thread Episode 23 highlights of my week in photos, the highlight of which was Jimmy Choo coming to New Zealand, organised by REMIX magazine and hearing him speak with Amber Peebles at Sugar Club in SkyCity Auckland. Other highlights included some fun eating at MEXICO with the family, and of course the long weekend with Labour Weekend and a trip to Devonport tunnels under North Head, and a family BBQ. How was your long weekend?
JIMMY CHOO
Professor Jimmy Choo is an iconic figure in the footwear industry and synonymous with beautiful (not to mention expensive) shoes. Local NZ footwear designer Kathryn Wilson said he is her shoe hero – she first met him in 2014 and called him an “inspirational icon of footwear”. It was so good hearing from the internationally-famous shoe designer at Sugar Club for breakfast in SkyCity Auckland in conversation with Amber Peebles and Remix Magazine. He came across as very humble and likes to encourage others in the industry and has a great down to earth and hard working attitude that belies his fame and fortune.

MEXICO
Kids eat free on Sundays at MEXICO restaurants nationwide and get Frida Kahlo masks! Fish tacos and the stuffed jalapeño chillies were so good and we’ll be back again soon. For more info and menus, see www.mexico.net.nz
STAR WARS
Star Wars cookies arrived to announce Star Wars The Force Awakens opening in NZ cinemas in two months on December 17th! I am BEYOND EXCITED, having watched it aged 7, and the other episodes, all my childhood. I’m also loving the Star Wars app (go to the app store on your phone and search for Star Wars’) which has the cutest emojis and also a selfie that puts your face into characters!
This is how Princess Leia would’ve looked, wearing my Clubmaster wood Ray-Bans, using the new Star Wars selfie app! It’s quite fun and slightly addictive. I also did myself frozen in carbonite as Meg Solo.
THE WAREHOUSE SUMMER
Bikini, slides and sunglasses heralding the start of summer, with cupcakes by Bluebells Cakery! All these clothes and accessories are from The Warehouse, who are launching their brand new summer collections int stores as we write. I was particularly taken with the active wear which looks far more expensive than it is and the compression tights ($29) had a really good cut.
KIEHL’S AT THE GARDEN SHED
I headed along to perhaps the prettiest venue in Auckland – the Garden Shed on Mt Eden Road – for the launch of Kiehl’s incredible new Daily Reviving Concentrate. This new serum, which is in stores now, is designed to be worn by day, in conjunction with their iconic best-seller, Midnight Recovery Concentrate which is on as you sleep. Midnight Recovery Concentrate was launched back in 2010 and was one of the first facial oils on the market and helped start the global trend for facial oils which has really taken off as people realise their benefits – and that they won’t make you greasy or give you pimples! To combat signs of skin fatigue, Kiehl’s has formulated this sunny yellow bottle of goodness in order to boost skin’s DAYTIME defence system. At night we repair, and by day we revitalise. It contains 100% natural origin fatty acid, cold-pressed botanicals including sunflower seed, ginger root, and tamanu, rich in lipo-soluble vitamins.
Revive by day… Recover by night… Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate ($98) and Midnight Recovery Concentrate came at the beauty launch with matching perfumed pot pourri bags- so fragrant!
REPERTOIRE
This week I had the pleasure of viewing the collections at Repertoire in Osborne Lane, Newmarket which are all designed AND made in NZ by Lee, pictured below, and their staff are amazing listeners and the clothes absolutely fit your body. Definitely check them out. People often ask, where can I get clothes made in New Zealand these days? Well I’m going to say go to Repertoire in Newmarket as the clothes are fabulous and the staff are sooo lovely and friendly.
