Happy new year! Here’s the first of my columns for 2016: ‘The Week on Thread’, bringing you Episode 31 with highlights in pictures.
HAPPY NEW YEAR – HELLO 2016!
Well, a very big hello to 2016. This diary is by RUBY, necklace by Karen Walker, liquid lipstick by MAC, and nailpolish by Hello Kitty x OPI.
ASB CLASSIC
Yum! A build-your-own Kapiti icecream bar at the ASB Treehouse. It was my first time ever at the women’s tennis and so I was over the moon to be invited along by ASB Bank to their hospitality are for dinner, BBQ and drinks, followed by the singles and doubles matches. Caroline Wozniacki easily won and it was a joy to watch both women play at the top of their game. I even managed to score a selfie with her after the match!
MANNA CAFE
Morning coffee with the family at the local, Manna Cafe. This place is really cute and has lovely interior design as well as friendly staff and good coffee – so a win win all round. We have the mini pan au raisin and chocolate pan ($1.40) and flat whites ($4) and kids’ fluffies ($1.50) and read Frankie magazines.
FRENCH KIDS EAT EVERYTHING
I’m enjoying reading this book, French Kids Eat Everything. It’s not that new – in fact, I got it at the library withdrawn book sale for 30 cents – and read it cover to cover and applied it at home the first night to great success. I especially liked how the children set the table with a tablecloth to get invested in dinner and they must eat what the parents eat with no short order cooking separate meals for children, and I’ve been using her line “You don’t have to like it but you do have to try it” as they take over a dozen tastes to like a new food.
ALL GOOD COLOURING BOOK
Currently relaxing on the beach at Algies Bay with this fabulous New Zealand-themed ‘All Good’ colouring book by Jo Pearson from Allen and Unwin. Available now for $24.99.
ALGIES BAY BETHSHAN MOTEL
Really cute beachside cottages at Bethshan Motel in Algies Bay I stayed at in the weekend; highly recommend. They’re $165 in peak season a night and a DVD library, all the kayaks, life jackets, and laundry are included. This one in unit 9. There was also a trampoline IN THE OCEAN on a floating pontoon. I’d never seen anything like it. We took the children out on their rowboat to have a bounce in the sea.
APPLE PIES IN TEACUPS
I baked easy apple berry pies in teacups. Used pre-rolled Paneton sweet pastry sheets, frozen berries and sliced apples, and no added sugar.
ONLINE SALES
I may have succumbed to some online shopping at the Karen Walker sale. What have you bought in the sales?
