Top Must-Have Items for Your Uniforms in 2015

Looking ahead to the new year with a fresh face, new look and a great outlook is definitely the right kind of approach you’ll need if 2015 is a “take no prisoners” kind of year. And why not? It’s been a tough recession to date and competition for employment has been fierce. Maybe it’s time to renew your edge in the new year, and these little fashion items might just make the play you need to show that you mean business.

The Classic Look is Back Again

Today’s office look is a hybrid of the best of today, with a healthy serving of authentic vintage chic. The best of the best, the cream of the crop.

Footwear

This year the vintage look that came back into circulation last in 1997 is back; black leather pumps and Doc Martens are going to be making a massive comeback in the year 2015.

With the quality of the craftsmanship, it’s also quite likely that you’ve already got some of these items in your closet already.

During winter months its easy to combine thicker less transparent leggings, too. They complete the look, and they keep you warm when the snow or frost begins to stick around a little longer than your legs are comfortable with! (And they save you from some tedious leg shaving for a few months out of a year!)

The Mad Men Look

Don’t be afraid to return to retro and take it all the way! Pencil skirts and 50’s hairstyles are back on the fashion menu, and depending on the look you’re going for, it’s one you can take inspiration from a la carte.

A nice patterned skirt with a neutral –or colourful cashmere sweater will really make your style pop.

Pants

Wool pants in the cooler months, cotton in the warmer month, pants are always in style, and always full of utility. Giant foxtooth or corduroy pants are trending once again from London to Sydney, and definitely worth considering as uniforms.

Getting Casual

For more casual workplaces, some more contemporary looks can be adopted from New York runways which seem to hover around loose, long, minimalist styles of clothing.

Simple cuts that provide a little breathing room while still maintaining a professional style are popular with more artsy hipsters and are likely to be seen on the production floor in design agencies and media studios everywhere.

Plaid shirts, corduroy pants, and cheesy Christmas sweaters are usually acceptable in more contemporary offices, too. Sweaters provide awesome opportunities to be really out there, while clinging to the dress code by your fingertips. It’s all good.

Hats

To most people, winter means rain or snow, maybe both either in that order or simultaneously. It’s maddening when you’ve spent the morning straightening your hair (in unpredictably bad weather from January to May), and no one likes you when you arrive at the office in a bad mood. It’s time to hat up.

Good ‘ol Canadian-style fuzzy “toques” can fit the bill in blustery weather, and we’ve seen a resurgence in brave women rocking the cowboy hat in rainy season. Probably because it’s just like wearing an umbrella on your head.

Runner-up are hooded sweat shirts and fuzzy-hooded Canada Goose or North Face jackets. Get jiggy with it, but avoid shiny clothing. That’s not supposed to ever make a comeback.
