Trendwatch: What’s New In Shoe Trends for Summer 2020 – 2021

From vegan leather, to straw shoes with cork soles, from sugary pastel gelato shades to the unisex vibe of androgynous flats to the square toe that’s the new pointy toe- I checked out all the key trends in footwear at Mi Piaci and Merchant 1948 footwear media showcase.

Here are some of my faves and top picks for the new season. Have a scroll through and see what you like best- and make your shopping list for SS20/21.

Above: I’m wearing new season shoes by Mi Piaci, at their showroom in Newmarket, while checking out the upcoming collections at their media showing. I love seeing the shoes; I am pretty much like a big kid in a candy store (NB do not eat the shoes Megan.) These beautiful block heels have a detachable chain, to take them from day to night, and are designed by New Zealand women for New Zealand women.

NEW SEASON SHOES

Blinging up Baby:
up the ante on basic white sneakers with gold stars and crystals.
Pastel Power:
Gelato shades of leather sandals in mint, lemon, and pastel pinks join classic white. Wear with a tan and carry an ice cream.
Gingham Style:
Check out these black and white checks and block blacks. Also spot the return of the classic laced up front sandal.
Olive Grove:
Green continues to be a strong shade in footwear and makes an appearance in olive. All shades of neutral are still popular especially this bone shade.
Satchel and heels to take you anywhere.
Metal chains, and woven jute add texture to new season styles.

DEUCE SUPPORTING YOUNG HEARTS PROJECT

Vegan leather sneakers by Deuce.

Another cool thing – every purchase of a full-priced pair of Deuce sneakers sees $5 donated to Young Hearts Project; supporting young people through the challenges of life, and they have raised over $1.5 million for the charity to date.

KINDRED CELEBRATES WOMEN

Mi Piaci’s campaign this season, ‘Kindred’ celebrates women today, empowered by each other, learning and sharing lessons as we age.

“We are kindred; connected through a sharing of values, attitudes and beliefs, the mutual love and understanding of one another is what connects us as kin.

From the clothes we wear to the shoes on our feet, we honour the women that have dedicated their lives to dressing us.

Proudly local with our team of New Zealand designers, our prominent stance on female connection and empowerment speaks through our soles.

A curated and considered collection by New Zealand women, for all women.”
