Highlights of The Week on Thread: Episode 11
Saturday
Benefit Brow Wow
I got my brows wowed with a brow tint for summer, at Benefit Queen Street inside Smith and Caughey’s today with the lovely Benebabe, Sarah. Photo by Tamsin Marshall. My top by Amber Whitecliffe.
Santa’s Bach
I highly recommend the ASB Santa’s Bach family entertainment down at Silo Park. It is open to the public at Wynyard Quarter, where you go through an interactive cabin and meet Mrs Claus and elves, Santa, and go on a sleigh ride. Below: Chocolate coconut dairyfree icecream made with liquid nitrogen at Sweet Val’s Icecream at the ASB Santa’s Bach party.
Blaze Hair
I headed in to Newmarket to have a haircolour at Blaze. What I wore today: dress I sewed, tights Lonely Hearts, Ecco shoes, new blonde hair by Kirsty at Blaze Hair.
xynz Workshops
After being stuck in that traffic jam for 1 3/4 hours it was fabulous to be at the XYNZ.com Beauty Bloggers Workshop and eat this amazing baking by Bluebells Cakery. The workshop at Thievery Studio off K Road was very well-organised, and featured three beauty and blogging speakers: Garth Badger, Photographer of Thievery Studio, Eleanor Dorn, Makeup Artist, and Nikki Lovrich, Makeup Artist. It was also very good value at $25 for three speakers, afternoon tea, and a goody bag to take away.
Sunday
Auckland Fair
Auckland Fair was on at Shed 10 at Queen’s Wharf for the first time after some years at Aotea centre and they did a great job of marketing – as the queue was down the wharf! Very popular, indeed. Inside the shed was a huge selection of handmade art, craft, and design, at the market put on twice a year by Jess Whiting of foxesblog puctured below and today’s market was just perfect for Christmas gifts.
At the Auckland Fair: ninjabears pictured below are online at ninjabears.co.nz and they also have a trademe page, where the handmade character toys sell for $10 to $20 each.
My daughter loves her hand-painted unicorn hat from Auckland Fair today by artist Avoir Young- because you can never have enough unicorns and this is beautifully made.
Saben at the Airport
The fabulous New Zealand leather bags and accessories brand Saben have now opened a pop-up store at Auckland Airport, so you can buy before you fly – or even pick up some hand luggage on your way out.
Monday
Edmonds goes gluten-free
Gluten free people rejoice. Edmonds has launched gluten free and self raising gf flour and they’ve sent over a pack for me to bake chewy chocolate chip cookies.
Tuesday
Quut beach toys
These Belgium-designed plastic durable and sustainably-made beach toys are very cool – I wish I’d had them when I was a kid. They’re around $12 to $24 and available in New Zealand at children’s website, www.littleandloved.co.nz
See my Quut beach photoshoot here.
Disney XD comes to Sky
There were Stormtroopers, Spider-man and Hulk cupcakes, and a Star Wars movie, at tonight’s Disney XD Sky launch down at Hoyts Sylvia Park. I took the children along for the media launch which had plenty of food, cupcakes, and even Hulk-coloured drinks and cocktails for grownups, as well as Stormtroopers wandering around for photo opportunities. Next we all went into the cinema to see a special preview screening of Disney and Star Wars Rebels short films. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it looks like a really cool channel that’s coming to Sky on 24th December 2014.
Wednesday
Eden & Stokes Showroom Day
It’s always great to go into the PR showrooms, and see up close the fashion, bags, and jewellery over a glass of Lanson! Katie and Amy Louise of Pead PR hosted us at their fashion showroom, Eden & Stokes, named after the roads the showroom in based on in Mt Eden.
Below: Taken moments before I devoured this City Cake Company cupcake, with pretty pink Essie nailpolishes, at Eden & Stokes showroom day.
Thursday
Lush VIP bloggers pamper event
We headed in to the Queen Street Lush store for an evening of snacks, trying out products, learning how to tie scarves, and hand massages. The Lush team are always so friendly and welcoming and the store smells amazing.
Friday
Caci Clinic Facial
I had an incredible facial with Olivia at Caci Clinic in Albany (opposite Factory Frames in Apollo Drive.) Highlights were the steamer, lavender-scented Murad masque, and head massage! Just what I needed in this busy season.
