Juna menswear launches in Auckland

“Shut the Gate” Menswear by Juna launches in Auckland

Juna, by designer Julie Stevens, has diversified into the menswear arena after many requests to design a range that was unique yet affordable.

Juna made its way in the world as a New Zealand womenswear brand, produced locally here in Auckland, and this is a new venture into menswear with the launch of the first capsule collection called “Shut the Gate’ held on Thursday 24th July at Moa, Grey Lynn. See their Tumblr of images here.

The event demonstrated the high level of interest in the label, in particular with men (obviously!) – and men of all ages.
The label connects urban Grey Lynn with rural New Zealand. Each piece is named after a street in Grey Lynn where Julie grew up and is based, and uses woolen viscose blends to create warm, comfortable, light weight pieces that reflect urban-cool with a touch of rural-ness. This can be seen through the colour palette – deep greens and bright blues, plaids mixed with greys mimicking that ‘Swandri’ direction.

Juna is a family orientated business, Julie’s goddaughter Nikau Hindin manages the brand, PR and photography. The winter campaign is shot by Nikau using different local men; the neighbour, the brother, the son, the boyfriend, and the local brewer!

Each piece in the range can be made to size with only small numbers of each being produced. The label will be available online in mid August via the Moa website moagreylynn.co.nz. It’s definitely worth getting the man in your life to have a look.
