Buying designer recycle fashion in Japan seemed to make perfect sense. Here was a country internationally renowned for investing in top labels and also having disposable income and a fairly robust sense of consumerism whilst being obsessed with the latest and the newest. This meant, in my mind, the perfect combination – great labels being worn then unwanted! So, I figured, their designer recycle stores had to be INCREDIBLE; treasure troves of golden goods waiting to be discovered. And I was right. The two stores I ventured into were Kindl and RAGTAG in both Osaka and in Tokyo’s Ginza shopping districts. Shelf upon shelf of designer fashion was laid out beautifully and I highly recommend either of these stores to anyone wanting top brands for men and women. Another way to shop is to look at their e-stores online, and also the Yahoo.jp auction sites to buy (cheaper) direct from individuals and you can set up accounts to pay a premium of about 20% and have them shipped internationally but if you happen to be in Japan, it’s easier and nicer to see what you’re getting and try it on in person first I think.
Below: the Kindl recycle boutique is located in Kyoto and also Ginza Tokyo.
RAGTAG is located in Osaka in Ame-mura and in Umeda as well as Ginza Tokyo. In Tokyo RAGTAG, I picked up some great bargains and they were in fantastic condition.
