They say good things come in threes, and it’s certainly a hat trick for The Department Store, with

1. Monocle judging it best retail destination in the world,
2. their first catwalk show on Friday and
3. the news that TopShop will open in New Zealand for the first time this April on its top floor…

Up until now, it has been the (fabulous) retail experience that has set The Department Store apart, not its stock; some city dwellers comment that all its labels are already available city-side. Until now.

With over 300 stores in the U.K. and 100 stores in territories around the globe, the TopShop store at The Department Store will be only the second destination for TopShop retail in Australasia. TopShop’s first New Zealand location will be in the hands of The Department Store retail team.

Rachel Proud, TopShop Senior Buyer and Wholesale Manager says of the move to The Department Store, "Our global expansion has to have a select point of view – we hand-pick the destinations the brand is sold into and we watch how the brand is managed very carefully. The Department Store was on our radar so we made the approach and we’re thrilled it has come together. The Department Store is a premium destination for us.”

The TopShop store inside The Department Store will cherry pick the best of TopShop’s 300 new styles that fill its stores each week. Collaboration collections such as Kate Moss for TopShop and the ‘Unique’ line (launched at London Fashion Week in 2005) will hit New Zealand’s shores at the same time they are available in London.

And TopShop won’t be on the retail ground floor, but rather on the top floor adjacent to Stephen Marr salon where the art exhibition space inhabited.

Now with TopShop on board, there’s no doubt that The Department Store is NZ’s top store.
