While still a student at University and at the tender age of 20, Wellington designer Sophie Burrowes has released her fourth collection. Inspired by ancient gods and roman rulers her SS10/11 collection of feminine vs masculine looks is entitled Warrior Goddess…
Here is a first look at Sophie Burrowes’ Spring Summer 2010/11 collection, shot by Daniel Batten with Red11 models Rosie Herdman and new face Georgie Wright.
"My collection has been inspired by ancient gods, Roman rulers and Grecian goddesses" says Sophie. "It plays on the ideas of hard vs. soft and feminine vs. masculine with the use of floaty silks contrasting with metallic and leather."
Below: No helmet hair here. Metallic shorts with blouson sleeved shirts, and the LBD gets edgy with a studded leather belt.
"Using an organic colour scheme, the pieces mix and match to give a series of different looks that can easily be mixed up or down for any occasion."

Below left: Scalloped Singlet, Sun God Shorties. Right: Peach Diamond Weave Bra, Goddess Skirt.
Sophie tells Thread.co.nz "Readers can buy online off my website later on (around September 2010). It’s also available through Dunedin boutique Belle Bird and will be available at few other stores soon."

"Coming up for me is now designing the next Winter collection along with University, still one more year to go before I can do this full time! Can’t wait!"
We can’t wait either. With this much talent and a not inconsiderable passion and business savvy at producing a full collection and selling to stores while aged twenty and studying fulltime, Sophie Burrowes is definitely one to watch.
