Misery, the artist, is no longer. Her creator ,Tanya Jade Thompson, is changing direction. So to lay the ghost of ‘Misery’ to rest, Webbs are auctioning her ‘deceased estate’ this Friday 4th November, so if you ever admired her work, now is the time to act!
RIP Misery.
Misery, the artist, is no longer. Her creator Tanya Jade Thompson has been feeling constrained by what Misery has become and wishes to change the direction of her work.
She has felt a great pressure from her public to continue to produce the collection of highly successful characters that have been with her since childhood. Maybe she has simply decided to leave her childhood behind, and move forward.
So with new and exciting projects dancing in her head she is starting with her Little Lotus Project – check it out on Facebook. It is an amazing collaboration of four artists working with refugee children in Thailand. She is leaving shortly to start this amazing new chapter in her life.
So to lay the ghost of ‘Misery’ to rest, Webbs are auctioning her ‘deceased estate’ of the last of her Misery works this Friday 4th November at Shed 2, 90 Wellesley Street, Auckland at 6.30pm. If you ever admired her work – then now is the time to act!
We were at the opening of the exhibition on Thursday 28th October to see her small but perfectly formed exhibition. There was fabulous funereal music from a Hammond organ in the corner, and Misery-inspired small people dressed as their favourite characters.

There is a wide range of styles spanning her career from posters, to motorbike helmets, small artworks to enormous. We especially love and covet the resin heads.
Much as it is with sadness that the brilliant Misery passes away, we look forward to seeing what the re-born Tanya Jade will be doing in the future. No doubt it will be spectacular.
