Mr Boon Saves Christmas

“Listen boys, if we sit up the front we might get picked to help.”

Turns out, this was a very good strategy…

We previously saw teacher/comic genius Mr Boon in April and the kids loved the slapstick, the special effects and the audience participation. We were not disappointed this time because we had loads of all three!

Mr Boon is enlisted by Santa to help find his missing reindeer – or else Christmas will have to be cancelled! Mr Boon is a reluctant hero but knows that with a little bit of help from the audience he might just succeed on this christmassy quest.

Special effects included a very familiar looking Santa skyping Mr Boon to check on progress. The adults admired Mr Boon’s skill at having a conversation with himself in another role. Meanwhile, the kids just thought it was hilarious that Santa would turn to the poorly qualified Mr Boon for help with such an important task.

Rhys Matthewson plays all the other roles included the slightly evil Farmer Palmer the Llama Farmer. He did a great job of being frozen in pause mode. We know this first hand because the youngest member of this review panel was the volunteer reindeer that gave him a good prod to check he really was paused.

The story takes us all over the country, all around the Christmas spirit and right across Mr Boon’s wide repertoire of singing, dancing and ukulele playing. Not to mention writing the outstanding theme song!

In a poll of our children on whether this was a good as April’s Mr Boon’s Big Time Last Chance Kids Show, the answer was a resounding yes. It had both the seven year old and eleven year old in fits of laughter. The only danger is flying cream pie.

But make sure you book online or get your tickets ahead of time. We saw families trying to buy tickets on the day with no success, as they were all sold out. And we definitely got to see why! A big bit of crazy Christmas cheer, that the whole family can enjoy.
