Kowtow at The Department Store
Wellington-based eco fashion brand Kowtow is joining the line-up at The Department Store in Takapuna.The AW15 collection will be presented live and Kowtow’s designer/founder Gosia Piatek will be there on the night of Wednesday May 20th at 6.30pm – with the show at 7.15pm. Launch of Julie Cooper’s the box. label
The box. label, www.theboxlabel.com, is a brand new website launched this week by Julie Cooper starring handmade pieces and acknowledging local artists and suppliers. “I feel we need to teach our following generation that ethically sourced local product is so important to consider as consumers” says Julie. “It’s about quality over quantity – locally made – all products sourced from NZ suppliers.” Her launch collection includes a white rabbit deluxe mug ($22 each), ‘today’ silk kimono (long $260, short $240), and ‘moonlight drive candle’ in locally hand-printed glassware, hand poured natural scented soy candles with wooden wicks in coconut and vanilla ($48 each).
Triumph gets animated
Triumph globally has just launched a Disney-inspired animated short film to help women find their perfect bra. Featuring a cartoon version of Hannah Ferguson, Sports Illustrated star and Triumph model, the film follows Hannah’s journey with her friends, fairy Godmother and even frog prince. The music has been created by Tony award winning musical theatre composer Jason Robert Brown with vocal performances from three acclaimed Broadway singers. Ballet Revolución
Direct from Havana and returning to Auckland with a new production, Ballet Revolución brings their explosive, sensual and impressively athletic performance to fill The Civic with raw Cuban energy from 17 – 21 June. Ballet Revolución is a dance spectacular featuring eighteen of the world’s finest classical and contemporary dancers on stage with an eight-strong live Cuban band performing the infectious rhythms of Latin-America, as well as hits by Sia, Lorde, Beyoncé, Jessie J, Bruno Mars, J Lo, Prince and Rihanna. Don’t miss the show that ‘delivers an endorphin high’ (The Guardian, UK) as the Ballet Revolución dancers switch effortlessly from ballet and contemporary dance to powerful street dance and hip hop.
Pink Shirt Day
Pink will be the colour of the day at Glassons stores nationwide this month, as the leading retail chain shows its support for women standing up against bullying. The popular clothing chain is supporting Pink Shirt Day on 22 May, with store staff around the country donning pink wristbands and t-shirts on the day to help raise awareness of the anti-bullying campaign.
Coeliac testing
You can now get screened for coeliac disease in ten minutes for $62.99 with a pin-prick test at your local Unichem or Life pharmacy with Green Cross Health’s new test. Approximately one in 100 people in New Zealand suffers with coeliac disease – a permanent autoimmune disorder characterised by an intolerance to gluten. It’s best to find out early and then manage the disease through an appropriate diet. I am going to get my child tested and see what they say!

Collective boutique opening in Christchurch
The Colombo is opening a new designer concept store, a first in Christchurch. Aptly named Collective, this space will hold a mix of contemporary creations, iconic brands and emerging designers not often found together under one roof. Collective will provide an exciting selection of homeware, books and magazines, a florist, both men’s and women’s fashion, jewellery, affordable and also rare limited pieces, all from a selection of both New Zealand and international brands. BIRD & KNOLL x QANTAS COLLABORATION WITH TREND CONSULTANT JESSICA HART
Luxury scarf brand, Bird and Knoll, is delighted to announce a collaboration with Qantas Airways. Fronted by supermodel and businesswoman Jessica Hart, the brand alignment sees the scarf designers photographing and producing a limited edition scarf for Qantas highlighting Hart’s favourite destination in Australia that “Feels Like Home”.
The New York based model will become a Trend Consultant to Qantas Airways, translating her knowledge and understanding of global fashion trends into exciting projects to benefit Qantas Frequent Flyers, starting with a beautiful exclusive Bird and Knoll scarf.
