The 8 top fashion and beauty trends we loved this year including jumpsuits, sports luxe, BB and CC creams, pastel hair, strong brows and midriff-exposing tops…

1. The jumpsuit was the BIG trend with onesies, playsuits, jumpsuits and rompers all around. Below: Salasai. Photo: Seun Shote

2. Sports Luxe meant it was acceptable to get comfy in trainers and sweatshirts with a fashion edge to them. Even leather was seen reinvented as sportswear. Photo at Salasai by Seun Shote

3. BB creams were huge, and CC creams are continuing to be launched by skincare and beauty brands showing they are not abating. Pictured below: some beautiful BB and CC creams, from Modelco $26, Manuka Doctor $40, Thalgo $74, and Smashbox $64.

4. Eyeliner is going to be even bigger. Some such as L’Oreal ‘Blackbuster’ are as thick as Vivid markers. Strong brows remain a key trend. Below: White Origami shoot on Thread. 5. Bright hair was everywhere, then became pastel, as we saw shades of soft pink and lavender candy-coloured hair.

6. Speaking of brights – the bright lip held its ground and is still going strong, with red, orange, and hot pink seen everywhere.

7. Monochrome was huge, seen in either block black and white, or graphic patterns.

8. Peekaboo fashion exposed bits of skin, and midriffs had their time in the sun as tops became cropped, worn with high-waisted bottoms, in a retro 90s look.

And coming up…The midi skirt – also called ballet length or tea dress – has started to drop into collections and is going to be big next year. Good news if you want to cover your knees.
