Walking into the Cargo Theatre to see Stolen Girlfriends Club’s latest collection at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week provided us with some welcome warmth from the unusually crispy, cold Sydney night air – and the show itself mirrored the feeling of changing seasons.
The first half showcased light, floating fabrics in soft blue denim, creams, camels and a vibrant floral print all worn by models with pale make-up and blonde hair.
Emma’s (the girly one) favourite was a flouncy party dress adorned with a huge hydrangea-like bloom on the shoulder.
This softness was mixed with some western cowboy tailoring – enter Kat’s (the tomboyish one) favourite: a men’s denim vest trimmed with camel.
As the show progressed, the ethereal imagery being projected onto the back wall slowly evolved into darker, almost gothic scenes (think flying crows and eerie woodlands).
Slowly too the clothes became more wintery in colour with much sharper tailoring and bolder lines and were worn by models with dark hair and heavy makeup… it was as if they warmed us up then cooled us back down again in preparation for heading back into the shivering evening air.
