Angela Kelly is a jeweller we have admired for some time now, for her perfect rendition of vintage, made contemporary.
Now, she is celebrating the opening of her boutique jewellery store in Ponsonby, so we headed in for a glass of Piper at her opening party on Thursday 23 August 2012.

Angela does remodelling of jewellery, repairs of existing jewellery, and her passion – creating one-off, original designs that totally suit the customer down to the ground. She will go to great lengths to find the right stone and the right design that you love. I adore the sapphire-studded wide oxidised silver rings that have a blackened effect to them; they have a vintage appeal but are also totally modern.
Michael John is a designer goldsmith who, like many craftspeople and indeed many fashion designers I know, does work for big brands (including household names such as Walker & Hall) and puts his heart into his own craft. He makes sterling silver pieces that have a dark edge to them such as Little Devils horned rings, Handcuff Pendants and Grenade Earrings.

"This cabinet is love, and this one is hate" Angela joked, pointing to her engagement rings cabinet adjacent to Michaeljohn’s instruments of death and torture! It is a nice juxtapoisition of feminine and masculine in the store, and means it stops the shop getting too girly.
