Wellington Fashion Week Group B runway show held on Friday 20th April was extremely well-executed, with all the kinks from the first night ironed out.
The hall filled quickly with eager fashionistas from the media and public, excited to see collections from Starfish, Robyn Mathieson, Kelsey Genna, Phillipa&Alice, Neverblack, Silence was…+, and Storm.
Robyn Mathieson was first on the runway, showing a colourful range of contrasting panels and floaty dresses. Teal and orange, pink and hot coral heated up the runway – quite a step into summer compared to some of the muted tones of winter collections showed on the previous night.
Neverblack showed next, offering feminine pieces featuring crochet detail, pencil skirts, and a revamp of camouflage pants.
Neverblack was the only designer showing men’s fashion, offering classic coats and tees, panelled shirts, and finished off with cuffed pants rolled to the ankle, giving it hipster styling.
Phillipa&Alice (below) featured olive and brown tones offset by floral and geometric prints. Three dresses stood out as very modern and highly wearable off the rack, with cut-out hips and corset backs. There was a lot of skin on show, kept modest with chiffon overlays and midi length.
Silence was…+ offered a collection of shirts and shirt dresses with collars and buttons in contrasting colours. With collars buttoned up, the collection was cool, with some colour and cut-out detailing to bring a pop edge (below).
Kelsey Genna featured party dresses that were accessible and super cute. There was a 50s vibe, and the models clutched posies as they strutted down the catwalk. The dresses had a themed rose-bud detailing (below) and were very feminine in a range of pinks and reds. I could see these flying off the racks come summer/spring.
A crowd favourite, Storm did not disappoint, showcasing a wide range of styles that with an urban-military feel. Dark tones were contrasted with bright pieces, and military button detailing was worn against feminine pussy-bow blouses and soft knits (below).
Starfish ran the largest collection to finish the night, brightening up the runway with amazing contrasting colours. The collection featured a tribal pattern and fresh colours like buttercup yellow, teal and lilac.
Perhaps taking a leaf from the celeb trend of going pantless, Starfish closed their show with a high-waisted pair of knickers worn under a buttercup blouse. Perfect for Wellington’s high winds, as who knows when the next gust is going to whisk up your hemlines?
